Located in the Sassi - the ancient part of Matera, Unesco Word Heritage since 1993 - the rooms were all restored respecting the ancient appearances. Continously inhabitated by local families until the '50s, the rooms were restored in 2007, carefully respecting the structural features of the cave houses of the Sassi. They all have private bathroom, air conditioning and mini bar, facing the typical "Vicinato" (neighborhood) - the courtyard where inhabitants drew water from the well or where they used to prepare typical delicacies like dry peppers and figs with almonds. The position is really enviable, as the residence is next to the "Musma" (contemporary art museum); just a few minute walk and you can reach the most important places of the city: the cathedral, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the typical cave house and the cave churches. You will also enjoy a fantastic view over the "Belvedere", where Mel Gibson shot the three cross scene of his film, "The Passion".
The structure also has an historic wine cellar. In this elegant and exclusive room, we took care of the details. Completely hand excaveted by our ancestors, with its vaulted ceiling, it has a wine cellar at the end, used for local and national wine presentation and tasting. The inner room, completely decorated with designed pieces, can be used as gallery for artists: sculptors, painters, cartoonists etc. The refined atmosphere of the courtyard is perfect for a drink under the stars. This big room is 100mq large with capacity of 80 seats and 100 in case of standing room.
