Experiences in the Garden of Venice
Treviso is the no-frills gateway to Venice. Every year, tourists in their thousands come streaming off the plane and on to the shuttle buses. But Treviso is not just an airport. Two miles down the road from the terminal is a historic town with a beguiling charm all its own: Renaissance squares, palaces, richly frescoed churches, streets threaded with ancient waterways.
The center of Treviso is a little walled city, with medieval gates, narrow, cobbled streets of arcaded rose-red brick and stone that twist and turn like dried-out water courses – which is what some of them originally were. Tiny canals run past handkerchief-sized gardens, glide beneath houses, appear at street corners.
Tiramisu is a popular coffee-flavoured Italian dessert, its origins are dated in 1960 in Treviso, which nowadays host the Tiramisù World Cup. Beyond the old city walls lie the radicchio fields.
Treviso’s other claim to culinary fame is the local wine: Prosecco, which is produced in the entire production area of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, preventing the name from being used for wines made outside the protected area. Running from Treviso to Valdobbiadene, the prosecco route is lined with vineyards. The winemakers are keen to attract visitors, and it’s hard to resist calling in for a tasting.
Treviso is in itself a “wonder”: it is one of the “Urbes pictae” – cities of painted houses – and is built on human scale, elegant and rich in history and art treasures. Its provincial district includes many Venetian villas. Two villas in particular deserve special mention, both by Andrea Palladio: Villa Emo and Villa di Maser. Then there are famous historical homes, including the San Salvatore Castle at Susegana, the Caste of Conegliano and the Castle of Cison di Valmarino.
Treviso and its province are known throughout the world for the production of clothing, shoes, sport technical equipment but not only!
7 golf courses, excursions with Houseboat, cycling, Nordic Walking, Rafting, canoeing, paragliding and many original ideas for team building activities as well as a rich calendar of sporting events! From rugby to great racing, the Triathlon to marathons.
The Prosecco Road and The Piave Wine Road collect the excellence of the wine. To these we add products such as Radicchio, "the Winter flower" of Treviso PGI and Variegato of Castelfranco Veneto, as well as the Asparago Bianco di Cimadolmo and Badoere PGI; Casatella Trevigiana DOP; the Chestnuts of Monfenera (PGI) and of Combai (PGI), the Extra Virgin Olive Oil DOP ... and even the Tiramisu!
